Dear Coal Miner’s Granddaughter,

Often times it really does seem like we are surrounded by assholes, and they always seem to be giving us shit, too. While moving to a deserted island may seem like an ideal choice, I think eventually you will get tired of eating coconuts all the time.

I feel the best way to deal with assholes is to let them know you realize they are an asshole. When someone cuts you off in traffic, yell out “Asshole!” Someone slams the door in your face, tell them they are an asshole. Use your middle finger for added effect.

And keep a roll of toilet paper with you. You never know what kind of mess you’ll have to clean up.

Dear Sans,

I think in many ways, we have lost our kindness, respect and grace to technology. We get so lost in the moment with texting, twittering and updating our Facebook status through our mobile devices that we forget about the people who around us. Personally, I went out with a friend a few weeks ago, and the only time she wasn’t sending a text message through her iPhone was when we had dinner. I can understand that some things can be urgent, but the new technology shouldn’t make everything urgent. Who is in control – us or our mobile devices?

However, I don’t think all is lost. If someone holds the door open for you, be sure to thank them. Respect others in the way you want to be respected. Help out a friend or a stranger. Hopefully if we show others kindness, respect and grace, we will see it in return.
